Thing 7

Of course we all use email every day, both professionally and personally. Most of the information that we receive from our headquarters now comes on email. It is very useful. A lot of patrons also email us with questions that they might have. For us Email works better than IM because we can answer at our own pace. I do not think IM will be very useful for us. We do not have enough staff to take care of IM. Who would be helping the patrons while we are using IM? I noticed that most of the libraries that provided this service were either large metro libraries or academic libraries. I would assume that they would have a great deal more staff than we have at the smaller branches.
I do not understand text messaging AT ALL. To me it is a waste of time and money. When I see all of these teens using it I wonder if they are going to be able to manage social settings. Most of their interaction is over the computer or text messaging. I think society is becoming too focused on some of these things. I do not see a time in the future where we will use this in our library.
